REFLECTION

Experience

Finally, this module is getting to an end, can't believe that I'm surviving now. This semester is a super big challenge for me as all the modules we have in this semester are heavier than before. The first task is actually quite relaxing and fun because there are more handmade works compared with the rest. But for the following tasks, I would say I struggled a lot and felt really stressed. From looking for a story that was suitable for me to design a suitable book layout. The progress is challenging yet enjoyable. For me, the hardest part of this task would be exploring the suitable art direction, not only suitable to the story itself but also suitable to my art style. While coming to the part of designing the book layout, I was quite excited as it was time to put the story and my illustration together! I appreciate the guidance and constructive feedback given by Mr.Vinod. There was a lot of time I made old mistakes and overlooked some details, but he is always there to guide us.

Observation

I observed that everyone has different opinions and aesthetic as everyone has different experience and background, that's why everyone like different things. I always compare myself with others even though I know that is not really good for me. I need to learn to be confidence with my own works and at the same time appreciating the works of others and learn from it. The other thing that I have to learn would be "work fast, work smart". I feel like I'm a quite organised person but I work slow and not so smart as well. I need to be more sensitive and creative.

Findings

When getting the suitable art direction for my book, I started with selecting the art style, but I struggled a lot at that moment. I started thinking about why it would be so hard for me, and then I restart my way of thinking, I decided to select the colour scheme first instead of the art style. And suddenly, everything went smoother than I expected. So, in this experience, I learned that if we face some problems that stop us, we may think from a different perspective. It's not a bad thing to stop, but don't stand still for too long. Besides, this module helped me gain a better understanding of the importance of layout design as throughout this semester all the publishing design task is about layout design. I hate it and I love it at the same time. I hate it because there are so many details need to take care of and there are so many rules we need to follow. I love it because it helps the visuals to convey more and clear messages to the audience. And again, creativity is the thing that I need to learn the most.
