INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1 - 6/1/22
Group Task
For this group task, we need to find out what are the
different types of infographic + the kind of information
they're applicable for + an example for each identified
type.
Group Members:
Rebecca Thoo, Loke Yeanne Tung, Tee Yi Qing, Loh Shu Huan, Zetie Bahaman, Chan Huei Lian
Individual Task
For this individual task, we were required to pick ONE free
online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed
infographic poster through our own experimentation with the
selected tool.
To complete the task, I also do some self-study about what is the
basic elements of an infographic. source
An infographic is a visual representation of data that is simple to
comprehend and enjoyable to read. They should also be simple to
utilise in the case of interactive infographics. It break down
complex information into digestible chunks for the common
individual.
1. Story
Without a story, an infographic is just a graphic. But the purpose
of a infographic is to tell a story.
- What is the story I want to tell?
- Is that relevant to my organisation?
- Why am i telling the story?
- Who am I telling the story to?
2. Data
Accurate data, the most important part of an infographic. You
must guarantee that your data is accurate, which necessitates the
use of reliable sources.
3. Copy
We need to write a copy while data has been sourced and is nicely
organised. While all the data has been assembled, the content of an
infographic may be long and complex. A gripping headline plays an important role here, it is the key
to engaging our audience. Keep it short yet descriptive.
4. Design
The design of an infographic should based on the story and its
characteristics. The use of colours should be kept to a maximum of
three. Use appropriate fonts is really important, make sure it is
legible in both large and small text, especially when using
numbers.
5. Graphs and Charts
"They are graphs and charts that display the data in a unique
and creative way – this is where the designer will shine."
The type of the graphs and charts are depends on what story
and data that you want to present.
After doing some exploration, I selected the infographic below which is
from here for the task. The overall design of the infographic below
feels uninteresting and unpleasant. Can't attract people to read it.
I think its biggest problem is the use of colours and the dull
fonts.

I reused the layout of the original but I tried to
keep using two to three colours and keep the design looks as simple as I can because the content
of this infographic is formed by words/text. Besides, I also
added some simple graphic elements which related to the
topic.

Personal Rating for Online Tool: Canva
- Difficulty and Intuitiveness: 1/5
I personally think this online tool is very easy to understand
and use. All the functions and tools stated clearly.
- Usefulness: 4/5
This online design platform is really useful no matter it's
for personal use or business use. One of the part that I
like of it is that all the design you've done it will be
automatically save under "All you designs". Besides, one of the
function "style" is really useful for users which it gave a set of
colour and fonts. You can easily choose one kind of style and
click on it, it will randomly set up the design with the style
that you've selected.

- Design templates, choices: 3/5
There is lots of design templates on Canva, for business,
marketing, education and etc. But sometimes you may found
the template that you like but not for the colour scheme, so you
may need to redesign it yourself. But I think the
overall is really good.
FLIP 2: Saul Wurman's L.A.T.C.H
Week 3 - 13/1/22
During the lecture section, we were given a
presentation by our classmate, and today's topic
is L.A.T.C.H.
L.A.T.C.H is a method of
information organisation that consist the

FLIP 3: Miller's Law (Chunking)
Week 4 - 25/1/22
During the lecture section, we were given a
presentation by our classmate, and today's topic
is Miller's Law (Chunking).
What's working memory?
Woking memory is our ability to remember and
use relevant information while in the middle of
an activity. To extend the information, we may
use CHUNKING to organise the content into
more manageable groups. This helps people
process, understand , and memorise more
easily.
What's Chunking?
It refers to the process of taking individual pieces
of information and grouping them into larger
units.
