Design Principle - Project 1
Week 6 - 28th September 2021
To have more idea exploration, I did some research about the meaning of colour, and I have chose three of them to express myself.
The colours that represent how other see me are:
The overall of the picture is a bit too flat, so I tried to add some texture in the background to solve this problem.

Lecture:
We define ourselves by the things that we own or like, we emulate
our favourite character or inspired by a style
How many faces are there?
The way we can visualise it, should be:
The self, how other see ourselves (physical traits
and personality), how we see ourselves (physical traits and personality), our experiences, our interests, our thought and so many other things in
our life.
Self-portrait
A self representation in the form of a drawing/ painting/ sculpture/
design. It is a visual depiction of the self.
A self-portrait art work represents us in other words, how we
see ourselves (be influenced by how others view us), what's our
feeling and what we want to be seen by others.
It's not necessarily to create a realistic image of yourself;
instead, it's an exercise in self-exploration.

Exploration:
While doing visual research, there is a lot of self portrait with different style out there. The style of design that I want to achieve is the design that can show two different kind of me in one picture.

Through this project, I want to show the two faces of me, which is optimistic at the outside but inferior inside. Perhaps, in the eye of other's I am optimistic and cheerful, and I am, but most of the time when I'm alone I feel inferior.

The colours that represent how other see me are:
- Yellow: Optimistic, Cheerful and Friendly
- Coral: Warmth, Feminism and Energy
- Blue: Clean, Dependability and Peace
- Independence Blue:

After that, I realised that maybe I can use both of the idea in one design. So I just give it a try.

Feedback:
Instead of using grey tone inside, using some colour that represent the positive part of how I see myself will be more interesting. Besides, I can also experiment with some symbol too.
After receiving feedback from Ms.JinChi, I choose the blue of independence as my background and added some words as a label kind of things in the background.
The reason that I didn't use any colour in the grey space is I want to show a colour contrast in my work and I think it may cause the lost of the focus point.
I made my self-portrait as a sticker and I try to use some symbol of my characteristic as a stickers too. But it looks a bit wired after I did the changes.

The overall of the picture is a bit too flat, so I tried to add some texture in the background to solve this problem.

After that, I adjusted the composition slightly, and remove the sticker of symbol to make it looks like a half-half composition. To make the whole picture looks more comfortable, I adjust a bit of the saturation and the brightness to balance it with the background.

After I have my final outcome of the project, I'm still doing some exploration on the internet, and I found this design is super cool so I just tried it on my picture and make it looks like a polaroid style. :)

Reflection:
Sometimes, it's really hard to express ourselves or define ourselves. This project do gave me a really good chance to ask myself that what kind of people I am. While doing this project, I found that everything have both positive and negative side, no matter it is personal characteristic or design.
