LECTURES

Week 1 - 4/1/22
During our first class, we were briefed about the module according to the Module Information Booklet and assignment that will be taking places for this module.

Week 1 - 6/1/22
During this class, we learned about Motion Graphics, which means Graphics in Movement.
- Motion Graphics = Composition + Animation
- Composition = Graphics + Typography
- Animation = Movement + Rhythm

To create a Motion Graphics, we need to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Write a script that tells a story.
Step 2: Storyboard while you brainstorm the visual treatment.
Step 3: Take your storyboards into design.
Step 4: Animate the final designs.

Fig 2.1 Example of Storyboard of Motion Graphics (Lecture Slide)

Sequence of sketches provide visual references for key scenes.
Pre-visualisation: Breakdown the visual script to scenes + running times
Create moodpboard to organise inspiration and references.

EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Quantify & Visualise Data
Week 1 - 4/1/22
After the briefing, we were told to do our first exercise which is quantifying and visualisation.
We were given TWO options to complete the exercise.
1. Jar of stuffs (Fig 1.1)
2. Emergency bug out bag (Fig 1.2)

For those who are in the physical class need to choose between a set of lego bricks and buttons to collect data and create an infographic poster. For those who are attend online class, like me, were told to look around our houses to search for a jar of stuffs (example: buttons, coins, candies and etc).

Fig 1.3 Selected Item: Hamster's Cookies, 4 Jan.22

I looked around my house and I saw this box of cookies with different shapes and colours, so I decided to use it for the exercise.

After group them into the sorted colours, I started counting the cookies.

After receiving feedback from Ms.Anis, I added the illustration of my hamster digitally due to the limited time.

Exercise 2: L.A.T.C.H
 Week 2 - 11/1/22
Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, Hierarchy
For this exercise, we were required to organise a group of information into a visual poster that combined and utilises the LATCH principles (min.4)

I have chose the Pokedex as my topic and the references of information from here.

Fig 2.1 References, 13 Jan.22

After doing some visual research, I have picked 5 different types of Pokémon for my Pokedex. Which is Flying, Grass, Water, Ground and Fire. I came up with two sketches.

Fig 2.2 Sketches #1, 13 Jan.22

Fig 2.3 Sketches #2, 13 Jan.22

I picked the sketches #1 for my final design because I think that it is more iconic and recognisable.

Fig 2.4 First Attempt, 14 Jan.22

After receiving feedback from Ms Anis, I tried to portrait the texture of magma/lava.

Fig 2.7 Design #2, 14 Jan.22

Fig 2.8 Design #3, 14 Jan.22

Fig 2.9 Design #4, 14 Jan.22

I've chose Design#4 (Fig 2.9) as my final. It is because the magma of Design#1 and Design#2 are too prominent and the overall effect looks different from the rest. The texture of Design#4 is more plain and soft, just like the other parts, and show a better visual harmony.

FEEDBACKS
Week 2 - 11/1/22
Exercise 1: The data are presented clearly. But there is an empty space at the right-hand side. Ms.Anis suggest me to draw a cartoon style of my hamster or even put she there and take a picture.

Week 2 - 16/1/22
Exercise 2: Ms Anis said that is an interesting take on Pokémon ball. She suggested me to add some fire with orange to the fire part on the ball. And also to indicate the evolution of time, I can increase the size of each evolution, so there is a definite visual hierarchy.
